ROLE: Documentary Assistant Producer (AP)
We’re looking for a skilled and thoughtful Documentary AP to join a small, close-knit team on a new BBC documentary series tackling a sensitive subject with real public impact.
Location: North West
Start: 9 March 2026
Contract: 12 weeks (with potential extension)
Project: 3 x documentary series for BBC
The Role
Working very closely with the Director, you’ll play a key editorial role in shaping a sensitive and impactful film. This is a hands-on position requiring excellent judgement, strong organisation, and real care when working with vulnerable contributors.
Key Responsibilities
• Editorial planning and shoot support
• Building and maintaining relationships with vulnerable contributors
• Supporting technical needs on location (incl. DIT)
• In-depth fact checking
• Sourcing, assessing, and organising archive, social media, and UGC
• Preparing detailed briefs, write-ups, timelines, and research docs
Essential Requirements
• Northwest based
• Minimum 3 AP credits on factual documentaries (singles or series)
• Experience with sensitive / blue-light subject matter
• Proven ability to work responsibly with vulnerable contributors
• Highly organised, detail-driven, and calm under pressure
• Comfortable working independently within a small team
Desirable
• Second camera experience / kit familiarity
• Knowledge of compliance, legal, and editorial standards
• Understanding of mental health and wellbeing processes
